GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

In the heart of the Maremma in Pitigliano, the former convent of San Francesco, part of a 16th century complex designed by a Renaissance architect for the noble Orsini family, is just a 10-minute walk from the historic center of Pitigliano, an ancient and beautiful Tuscan village, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The original drawings are now in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence.

The property has undergone an important conservative restoration with the addition of modern comforts, but remains a wonderful oasis of tranquility, immersed in nature and history.

The entrance to the monastery is through the enclosed courtyard, on the side of which is the ancient church of San Francesco, a national patrimony.

The main entrance is in the cloister, under a beautiful ancient portico. On the ground floor there are several small rooms off a vaulted corridor that leads to the main kitchen and the splendid dining room, built in the monastery's wine cellar.

From the dining room, a characteristic staircase leads down to the basement, where there is an ancient two-storey Etruscan cellar, dug deep into the tuff and used for aging wine and preserving cheese and oil. These have been carefully restored to provide four double bedrooms with en-suite facilities, one of which has a large terrace.
